LAKE ARGYLE GALLERY
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT OUR TOUR
The best (and only) way to experience the full length of Lake Argyle is on our Best of Lake Argyle cruise. This trip includes all of the highlights from our Sunset Magic trip and much more. From the rugged northern end to the vast expanses of the southern reaches and 120km in between, this is a must-do for anyone wanting to experience the heart and soul of our beautiful lake!
The bird is the word in the lake’s Southern wetlands, being home to a myriad of birdlife that sometimes numbers into the tens of thousands! Take a gander through the binoculars (provided by us, but your welcome to bring your own) for an up-close look at the many different species of birds and other wildlife including wallabies and crocodiles.
We’ll stop on a remote island to fossick for the intriguing Zebra Rock. Unique to Lake Argyle, this rock is alluring with its perfect stripes and spots that can appear to be painted on. We’ll cruise past the submerged site of ‘Argyle Downs’, the Durack Family’s Homestead, while listening to stories about the pioneering families and how they began the pastoral industry in the Eastern Kimberley.
We’ll enjoy the changing colours reflecting across the lake near Monsmont Island, the best spot on the Lake for sunset! Enjoy some delicious local Ord River produce for afternoon tea before stopping for a refreshing swim (don’t forget your bathers!) and complimentary beer, wine or champagne – the perfect end to a magnificent day on Lake Argyle.
Includes: Complimentary lunch, afternoon tea and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Average Duration: 6.5 hours
Note: We specialise in observing wildlife, but due to the nature of wild animals it cannot be guaranteed you will see all that is described in our service
Imagine living in a place where crocodiles outnumber humans; where you’re hours from the coast, but the sea is your front yard (an inland sea, that is); where flocks of birds can number into the tens of thousands; and where each day’s sunset has the potential to be the best you’ve ever seen.
When Greg began operating in 1999, he knew he’d never tire of showing this incredible part of the world to others. Two decades (and thousands of guests later) Lake Argyle Cruises remains the number one choice for exploring this magnificent part of the Kimberley.
Our fleet of purpose-built cruise vessels offer comfortable seating and unobstructed views, immersing you into the breathtaking landscape that the Eastern Kimberley is renowned for. Our team’s passion and knowledge, together with our fantastic products have earned us the Holy Grail for any tour company – a five star rating and Certificate of Excellence on TripAdvisor.
Whether you’re spotting for wildlife during one of our cruises, hiring a dinghy and throwing in a line, drifting across the water on a stand-up paddle board, or soaking in the magic of an East Kimberley sunset, you’ll experience the heart and soul of Lake Argyle with us, Lake Argyle Cruises!
Dress ‘Kimberley casual’ – shorts, t-shirt and sandals. Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, camera and binoculars! If you are sensitive to the cold, bring a light jacket to wear while we are motoring. Wear your swimwear and pack a towel for your swim at the end of the cruise. Warm clothing may be required from June to August.
“I booked a cruise called Best of lake argyle and I tell you what we went from one end to the other ,left to right and every where in between finishing off with a swim and a beautiful Lake Argyle sunset with a glass of champagne. The new boat is amazing with a very easy to use front swim deck the lowers into water and a ramp ladder that everyone found easy to use. Greg’s knowledge of lake argyle is the best around. Courtney in the front office and do’er of everything else was fantastic to deal with and nothing was hassle. Lots of food on board and we even had local produce water melon and rockmelon for days. Tea and coffee was available and easy to make your own while the boat was travelling.
Greg pointed out lots of birds and a couple of fresh waters crocodiles.
Family friendly too
I drove myself to lake argyle but there was a bus available to book a transfer on if you didn’t have a car.
What a wonderful part of the world you live in and will definitely come again when I’m back at lake argyle”
“We did the Best of Cruise last Sunday & wow wow wow !!! Greg & his helpers were the best. The weather was perfect, the boat glided on the water. Greg took us from one end to the other from one side to the other stopping at places to see wildlife, crocs & way up the other end of the lake where you see birdlife. The ever changing scenery is breathtaking. It isn’t as deep there and dead tree tops emerge giving a totally different view of the lake. Yummy lunch is provided too.A swim at sunset (bit cool but worth it) with champagne beer & nibbles. How much better could it get!!! THE SUNSET WAS AWESOME & FULL MOON VISIBLE TOO. I could go on and on but must say This will be a memory for us never to forget. THANK YOU GREG FOR A PERFECT DAY!”
“Yesterday I took the 6hr tour of Lake Argyle with Greg. 2 companies with similar names can be confusing but this tour was superb. Lunch rolls, tea coffee biscuits, fresh local fruit, and drinks and snacks at sunset. Great value, excellent info and Greg was a great host. He knows his stuff.”
“This place was just incredible. Greg was a fantastic tour guide, his knowledge of the area was very impressive. We done the half day Best of Lake Argyle cruise which included a swim and watching the sunset. Worth every $ and would gladly do it again. Thoroughly recommend this tour and this company. The whole afternoon from start to finish was great, well organised, there was plenty of food, drinks and information.
The sunset beautiful and the full moon coming up over the lake was lovely.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day and would highly recommend to everyone.”

“This has to be one of the best tours we have done. The bus trips between Kununurra and the Lake was very entertaining and interesting. The cruise was relaxing, entertaining and informative, it is apparent that Greg loves the lake and the work he does, his knowledge about the history, and what goes on in, above and around the lake was very impressive.
The sunset swim with drinks and nibbles capped off a perfect day.”
