SUNSET MAGIC2019-11-18T10:00:27+08:00

As the old saying goes, “red sky at night, sailors’ delight” and there’s no better way to experience a breathtaking Lake Argyle sunset than out on the water! On our popular sunset magic cruise, we’ll explore the rugged northern end of Lake Argyle while navigating through some of the lake’s 90 islands and inlets. Our Skipper will entertain and inform with commentary on the natural history and development of Lake Argyle, The Ord River Irrigation System and the Aquaculture Industry. You’ll encounter Rock Wallabies, Crocodiles, Wallaroos (Euros) and the diverse array of birdlife that call Lake Argyle home. You’ll be delighted and awed by the Archer Fish that shoot water up at your hand with amazing precision. You’ll watch a Catfish feeding frenzy (also known by the fancier term of ‘Silver Cobbler’) and perhaps you’ll even be enticed to come back out on one of our fishing trips. As the sun sinks behind the glorious Carr Boyd Ranges, you’ll enjoy a complimentary drink and a light snack to make the most of this magic time of day. With rugged red cliffs reflecting into the blue water, Lake Argyle is the ultimate place to catch the last golden rays of the Kimberley sun.

Includes: Complimentary afternoon tea with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Average Duration: 3.5 hours

Note: We specialise in observing wildlife, but due to the nature of wild animals it cannot be guaranteed you will see all that is described in our services.

The Durack Homestead Museum is closed between October-April.

Imagine living in a place where crocodiles outnumber humans; where you’re hours from the coast, but the sea is your front yard (an inland sea, that is); where flocks of birds can number into the tens of thousands; and where each day’s sunset has the potential to be the best you’ve ever seen.

When Greg began operating in 1999, he knew he’d never tire of showing this incredible part of the world to others. Two decades (and thousands of guests later) Lake Argyle Cruises remains the number one choice for exploring this magnificent part of the Kimberley.

Our fleet of purpose-built cruise vessels offer comfortable seating and unobstructed views, immersing you into the breathtaking landscape that the Eastern Kimberley is renowned for. Dress ‘Kimberley casual’ – shorts, t-shirt and sandals. Don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, camera, towel and swimwear. If you are sensitive to the cold, bring a light jacket to wear while we are motoring. Warm clothing may be required from June to August.

Once in a lifetime

“Having already done a similar thing on the Amazon, I was a little wary of this cruise. How wrong could I have been – from the time we were picked up and taken to Lake Argyle to the time we were dropped off back home again, it was nothing but sensational – from the knowledge imparted to us from Greg on the way and then continued on by Gary on the boat – to the absolute beauty that is Lake Argyle – to the swims in the lake (not to mention the nibbles and drinks we were able to enjoy as we swam !!) – it was just a delight and I couldn’t have been happier that we decided to do this cruise. Thanks Greg to you and all of your crew – excellent”

A sunset cruise you must do

Thank you Greg for an absolutely memorable time on & in Lake Argyle.
I did this cruise with a couple of friends, one being local to the area, and we were all amazed by the history lesson Greg gave us out on the boat.
We stopped at several interesting landmarks, swam twice in the water, saw a fresh water crocodile and then witnessed the amazing sunset.
This is a must do if visiting the area”

Good Great Magnificent.

“We decided on the sunset cruise. It was a good cruise that became great with the commentary and knowledge of our guide. It became magnificent when we stopped and could jump in the lake to enjoy a champers, beer and floating nibbles watching the sun set all whilst sitting on pool noodles floating in the middle of the pristine Lake Argyle. Travelling back to the landing in the dark was exciting and mystic. Well worth it. Highly recommend it.”

Sunset Cruise

“SUNSET CRUISE…..Wow, what an amazing experience, one we will never forget. We were blessed to be the only group on the boat so had an ‘exclusive tour’ (but this is a smaller boat than the other company so less people anyway). Mitch was our guide, he was awesome, very friendly and knowledgeable of the area, he let the kids have a drive of the boat and pick some tunes to have a dance to when they got bored of the history. We stopped to feed the rock wallabies, wallaroos, fish and got upclose and personal with a freshie. We also got the first rain of the season while on the lake…..magical! Highly recommend.”

Excellent sunset cruise experience!

“Truly get your money’s worth with this sunset cruise! You meet at the Lake Argyle store / cafe place and take short bus ride to the dock and are on your way. The driver provides a very knowledgeable commentary regarding the construction of the dam forming Lake Argyle as well as a complete history of the area – including the Durak family. Quiz him – he knows it all! He also points out numerous animals (wallabies, crocodile, and fish (watch those Archer fish!!) and geographic features. The snacks and drinks come out in time for a sunset swim in the middle of the lake if you so choose. Beautiful!”

A Personable Informative Cruise – Sunset Tour

“We chose this cruise for the second time around. Why? Well the boat is smaller than its competitors and it makes your experience feel more like you’re out with some mates on the lake. Our guide for this cruise was Mitch and he was just sensational-with the right amount of humour thrown in (thanks Mitch). After the nature tour and background regarding the construction of the lake sit back, enjoy a swim with cheese and bikkies and a beer/bubbly and watch the spectacular sunset. Recommended; don’t miss out.”
